Despite semi-final exit: Bayern top UEFA ranking ahead of PSG

FC Bayern have been waiting several years for their next Champions League triumph, but the Munich club are still at the top of the UEFA five-year rankings.

The German record champions currently lead the UEFA rankings with 147,500 points, leaving several heavyweights who have celebrated major international titles in recent years behind them. Particularly noteworthy: even defending Champions League champions Paris Saint-Germain cannot get past the Munich team.

Despite winning the premier class twice, PSG are only in third place. The French side have 132,000 points and are therefore well behind FC Bayern. Real Madrid are also ahead of the Parisians with 144,500 points.

The main reason for PSG’s deficit lies in the weaker European Cup years of 2022 and 2023, when the French capital club finished in the round of 16.

Bayern impress with consistency in Europe

While PSG won the big titles, FC Bayern scored consistently over the years. It is precisely this regularity that pays off in the UEFA rankings, where it is not only winning titles that counts, but also consistently performing in European competitions.

Over the past five years, Munich have regularly collected a lot of points. Even without a major coup in the Champions League, FCB have almost always remained in the international competition for a long time and delivered strong group or league performances.

While individual titles are of course more important in sporting terms, the UEFA ranking primarily rewards sustained performance over several seasons. FC Bayern is currently the measure of all things in this category.

For Munich, first place is therefore also a sign that the club remains one of the absolute elite internationally. Despite missing out on the Champions League trophy, the German record champions remain a force to be reckoned with in Europe.

PSG still behind FCB this season despite winning the title

A look at the past season is also curious: although Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League again, FC Bayern is also ahead of the French club in this individual ranking.

PSG have 37,500 points in the current season and are therefore only in third place. FC Bayern are in second place with 39,250 points. The frontrunners are Arsenal FC, who have collected 44,000 points and did not lose a single game until the final.

Bayern’s strong performance was primarily due to the league phase, where they won all of their matches apart from the clash with Arsenal and thus established a strong starting position early on.

Paris had a much tougher time in this phase, with four wins, two draws and two defeats to leave PSG with just 14 points and eleventh place in the table.

For FC Bayern, the ranking is a very respectable signal. Even if the trophy did not go to Munich recently, the UEFA ranking proves that the record champions continue to deliver at the highest international level.
