Fabio Grosso impressed quite a bit in Serie A with Sassuolo during the 2025/26 campaign and he is now set to join Fiorentina.
La Viola had a struggle of a season, even if they managed to avoid the drop and finished in a decent lower mid-table spot. Despite that, Paolo Vanoli is expected to depart.
Corriere dello Sport note that Grosso is now expected to become the next manager and an agreement between the two parties is now already in place.
The 2006 World Cup winner has agreed to sign a two-year deal, with Fiorentina now waiting to finalise the financial details. Sporting director Fabio Paratici, who arrived in Florence some months ago from Tottenham, is key behind the appointment as he was the director at Juventus when Grosso was managing the Old Lady’s Primavera side.
An announcement is expected today, with Grosso having previously guided Frosinone to promotion before doing the same at Sassuolo.
This feels like a step in the right direction for Fiorentina, who need a manager that is pragmatic yet has foundational principles in place. Grosso is perfect for that, as this approach took Sassuolo to new heights in the 2025/26 campaign.
Fiorentina are a much more delicate club to manage and the squad quality could be different but Gross feels like an appointment which is similar to that of Vincenzo Italiano and Raffaele Palladino. It is much different from the Stefano Pioli appointment and is aimed at starting off a project, signing very specific, technically proficient players that have high potential.
