Serie A side Milan have been linked with a move for Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk. The deal would be quite ambitious but it also presents significant challenges.
This is clear from Luca Bianchin’s chat with MilanNews about the Dutchman, who saw him side get knocked out of the World Cup at the hands of Morocco.
When asked whether talks can proceed, Bianchin said: It’s hard to say. We reported what we learned in the Gazzetta: Ibrahimovic spoke openly to the club in the spring about his desire to bring Van Dijk to Milan, and the idea reached Cardinale. From here on, it will depend on cost assessments and the eventual reaction of Virgil and Liverpool.”
The Gazzetta dello Sport also descrbed the obstacles in the move, with the key hold-up being the player’s salary and the Reds’ demands.
Of course, there are many obstacles. Van Dijk’s salary, Liverpool’s desire to sign Konaté, and Virgil’s thoughts on his future. Holland’s elimination from the World Cup could at least speed up the process.”
Bianchin also confirmed that talks haven’t been held yet.
“No, as far as we know, there’s no ongoing negotiation, just Ibrahimovic and the club’s willingness to evaluate the deal.”
This seems like one of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s grand ideas born out of whims and fancies. Besides, Bianchin confirms that the Swede first put the possibility forward earlier this year and there is every chance those old intentions could now be surfacing at a convenient time.
