La Liga champions Barcelona have on Wednesday officially announced a fresh addition to the club’s academy ranks. This comes courtesy of the signing of Dani Freire.

The name of youngster Freire emerged as a prominent one in the media headlines surrounding Barcelona this past weekend, upon word surfacing that he had enjoyed a successful trial period in Catalunya’s capital.

Freire, for his part, is a 16-year-old attack-minded midfielder capable of filling a number of positions in the final third.

A youth international with Portugal, the youngster spent recent seasons developing on the books of CS Fola in Luxembourg, a country in which he also holds citizenship.

His talents had long piqued the interest of those behind the scenes at the aforementioned Barcelona, giving rise to a trial with La Masia earlier this month.

And as alluded to above, on Wednesday, Freire’s efforts during this period have officially borne fruit. As per a report from market insider Fabrizio Romano:

’16-year-old talent Dany Freire has signed his three-year contract as a Barcelona player after passing the trial, as revealed last week. Deal done and new talent for Barça; here with his agent Filipe Macedo Alves after putting pen to paper.’
