The Red Devils started the game on the front foot. Bruno Fernandes flashed an effort wide from just inside the box.

The chance triggered a scuffle between Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane, and the former was slapping his teammate.

United could not take control of proceedings, allowing Everton to grow in confidence.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall drew first blood with a superb strike, bending the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

United almost responded immediately, but Diallo fired a shot straight at Jordan Pickford.

Pickford made a superb stop to deny Fernandes from restoring parity for the hosts before the break.

Manager Ruben Amorim made one change at the interval, replacing Noussair Mazraoui with Mason Mount.

Mount and Casemiro flashed efforts wide as United cranked up the pressure early in the second half.

Pickford pulled off a brilliant stop to deny Bryan Mbeumo, and Mount curled another shot wide.

Fernandes squandered a big opening after brilliant work by Mount, missing the target from eight yards out.

Pickford made another big stop, keeping out Joshua Zirkzee’s header. He denied his game just before full-time.

The result was Everton’s first league win at Old Trafford since 2013.
