DFB chiefs and Julian Nagelsmann ‘to travel’ to Istanbul to back Freiburg

SC Freiburg are preparing for their first-ever European final against Aston Villa in Wednesday’s Europa League showpiece in Istanbul, with senior DFB figures expected in attendance.

Kicker reports that DFB leadership, led by president Bernd Neuendorf, will be at Beşiktaş Stadium, with national coach Julian Nagelsmann travelling to support the Bundesliga side.

Germany’s sporting director Rudi Völler, managing director Andreas Rettig and general secretary Holger Blask are among the travelling party.

The delegation is expected in the stands for the match.

Freiburg centre-back Matthias Ginter has a chance to make Nagelsmann’s World Cup squad when the list is released on Thursday at the DFB campus in Frankfurt.
