Five more Bundesliga clubs booked their places in the second round of the DFB-Pokal on Sunday. With only five top-flight teams yet to play, including FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund’s postponed fixtures, we're yet to see a true cupset in Germany.

Mainz recorded the second biggest win of the round with a 9-0 victory in Kolkwitz against fifth-tier club VfB 1921 Krieschow. However, the biggest story of the tie was the hosts becoming the club from the smallest village to ever involved at this stage of the cup. According to latest reports, there are only 560 inhabitants in Krieschow.

Phillip Tietz was the star of the show on the pitch as he scored four goals, including a 32-minute hat-trick at the start of the game. Nadiem Amiri also scored either side of half-time, while Ransford Königsdörffer marked his debut with a goal after coming on as a substitute.

Freiburg already started their campaign on Thursday with a 3-1 win over Motherwell in the Europa League qualifiers, and they recorded another away victory three days later. Julian Schuster’s side knocked out Fortuna Düsseldorf with an emphatic 5-1 scoreline.

After losing both of their opening games in 3. Liga, Alexander Ende’s dispirited side held their own until the last twenty minutes against last season's Europa League finalists. However, substitute Igor Matanović changed the complexion of the tie with a brace and an assist to make it a flattering scoreline.

Borussia Mönchengladbach are another Bundesliga side to secure their progress with ease. Eugen Polanski's men beat Oberliga side TSV Schott Mainz 5-0 with Hugo Bolin scoring a brace before adding a second-half assist to his “Man of the Match” performance.

Daiki Hashioka scored on his debut for the Foals, while Wael Mohya netted the last goal on his return from injury. The 17-year-old is expected to be one of the standout youngsters in the upcoming Bundesliga season after making his first steps in the second half of the previous campaign.

Union Berlin had a tough tie away at 2. Bundesliga side Eintracht Braunschweig before Marin Ljubicic's supersub performance sealed their 4-2 victory. The Lions took the lead twice before the 24-year-old assisted Tom Rothe's equalizer and scored twice himself. Summer signing Zeno Van Den Bosch scored Union Berlin’s first goal of the season.

Former FC Bayern attacker Gabriel Vidovic was on the scoresheet in his debut for Paderborn as the newly-promoted Bundesliga side beat Phönix Lübeck 4-2. Fellow new signing Jano ter Horst and US midfielder Santiago Castaneda also started the campaign with goals.

Meanwhile, relegated sides St. Pauli and Heidenheim were eliminated by RW Essen and Jeddeloh, respectively. Former Blackburn striker Semir Telalovic scored for the third game in a row for Essen after completing a loan move from Nürnberg. Frank Schmidt's side 5-2 defeat at the Regionalliga side is the surprising result so far since the two teams are separated by two divisions.

Elsewhere, Bochum knocked out fellow 2. Bundesliga side Greuther Fürth with a 2-1 victory. New signing Christian Rasmussen and experienced striker Philipp Hofmann scored the goals for Uwe Rösler's side against the team who avoided relegation with a playoff victory over Essen at the end of last season.

2. Bundesliga clubs Darmstadt, Magdeburg and Dynamo Dresden are the other clubs to advance to the second round on Sunday with victories over Regionalliga and Oberliga teams. Pokal action will continue on Monday as HSV, Köln and Schalke will play their first games of the season. The 2015 Pokal winners Wolfsburg will also be in action with their game against Altglienicke.

FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund play their first round games in the first two days of September since they were involved in an entertaining Franz Beckenbauer Supercup clash on Saturday.
