Dibu Martínez has cooled on the idea of rejoining Independiente, admitting a comeback looks distant despite his affection for the club.
Speaking to DSports, he said: "Obviously I have always liked the idea of playing for Independiente, but I see it far away. I still have two years left on my contract, I am at the World Cup, I am in my best moment."
He added: "If I look at it for the future, very difficult. If I wanted to go back, I wanted to go back in good shape, like I am now. I think the last bullets are running out."
The 33-year-old came through Independiente’s ranks but never made a senior debut before moving to England, where he is now first choice at Aston Villa.
For the next seasons, his plan is to complete his contract in England, then, once that cycle is finished, to assess with his family the destination that best suits the final stage of his career.
