Dick Schreuder has indicated he intends to remain at NEC Nijmegen next season, cooling talk of a move to Leicester City.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, the Dutchman was considered by City late last month as they look for a League One boss. He has also been linked with Ajax, who finished fifth.

NEC ended their Eredivisie campaign with a win over Go Ahead Eagles to secure third place, the club’s best-ever finish, and a berth in the Champions League third qualifying round.

Schreuder described the run as unprecedented for the club and fans, called the Champions League prospect crazy, and said he will be there next year, noting he remains under contract.

Under King Power, City have never appointed a manager without prior coaching experience in England, though James McCarron’s arrival as sporting director could alter the process.

It is 18 days since Gary Rowett oversaw the season-closing 1-0 win over Blackburn at the end of his contract, with no update from the club on his future or their search. Last summer, Marti Cifuentes was not appointed until mid pre-season, and City will hope to avoid a repeat with players due back at the end of June.
