Did anyone die during the AFCON 2025 final in Rabat? Moroccan authorities respond
Moroccan security authorities have categorically denied claims circulating on social media alleging that member of the stadium staff died during the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 final between Morocco & Senegal in Rabat.
The final held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium unfolded in highly charged atmosphere as Morocco pushed for long awaited continental title.
Tension peaked late in the match when the Atlas Lions were awarded decisive penalty which Brahim Diaz failed to convert before Senegal went on to score the winning goal in extra time and secure 1-0 victory.
Shortly after the match several social media accounts began spreading reports of alleged fatal incident involving person assigned to stadium security.
In official statement ,, Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security rejected the reports in their entirety describing them as false and misleading.
The authority confirmed that no deaths recorded among private security personnel , ball collectors or any individuals responsible for organising or securing the final.
The statement also clarified that no investigations or procedures were launched relating to the discovery of body or death linked to crowd unrest.
Officials noted that these conclusions were reached after thorough checks with all relevant health institutions.
Moroccan security services also revealed that the judicial authorities were informed of the spread of misinformation with instructions to open legal investigations to identify and hold accountable those spreading these rumors.
Senegal crowned Africa Cup of Nations champions in Moroccan capital after defeating the hosts.
Authorities stressed that incidents limited to minor confrontations typical of major sporting events and did not result in any serious harm or loss of life.
