Alvaro Morata’s move to AC Milan in the summer was scrutinised, but after six months, the deal was criticised even further as he left in the January mercato.

When things broke about Morata potentially joining Milan, there were several questions asked about the deal, considering he was of a different mould to the club’s main target. Then, with his performances failing to impress, the deal quickly became a flop.

Despite this, most would not have imagined an exit. However, in the January mercato, the striker went on his way, due to the arrival of Sergio Conceicao, which has emerged since his move to Türkiye.

A move this summer is not guaranteed, with the deal having an option to buy included, rather than a mandatory buy clause. However, the bridges have been well and truly burnt, and today, the intermediary who handled the deal has revealed some information about the proceedings to turkiyegazetesi.com.tr, via Milan News.

Does the Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe rivalry put you under pressure? We know that Fenerbahce wanted to get Icardi. Have similar situations happened with other players?

“No, it’s not about pressure, it’s about motivation to perform at a higher level. I would also like to mention Besiktas, it is an important club and there are other clubs that do well. Yes, it is true that Fenerbahce wanted to get Icardi. Many other clubs were also interested in him.

“Lately I have noticed that Fenerbahce is also interested in players for whom I negotiated transfers for Galatasaray, for example those of Zaniolo and Skriniar. I admit that on some occasions I used strategies to prevent this from happening, like in the case of Morata.

“I did not want financial obstacles in my negotiations with Morata and AC Milan. I knew that Fenerbahce were also looking for a player for the same position, so I contacted Al Nassr and Talisca’s agent and told them that Galatasaray were interested in the player and wanted to finalise the transfer.

“A few days after my phone calls, Fenerbahce bought Talisca. With the support of Abdullah Kavukçu, I continued negotiations with Morata in secret.”
