Manchester United new boy Diego Leon was the hero for his national team as he scored the winning goal for Paraguay under-20s against Argentina in the Conmebol under-20 tournament.
The 17 year old signed for United in January and will join up with the Red Devils in the summer.
He played in all five of Paraguay’s matches this month but left his biggest contribution to the end of the tournament.
Leon showed great instinct in the box when he fired home from a corner that was headed back across goal by his teammate.
The strike would be the fifth of the match and would give the Paraguayans a 3-2 win over Argentina.
The defender was given a rating of 7.3 on Sofascore and made an impressive seven clearances in the game.
He also made two tackles and two interceptions to help his side hold on for a crucial win.
It was not the perfect match for the Paraguayan however, as he miskicked a clearance directly to the Argentine attacker who scored their first goal of the game.
Leon was competitive throughout though, as he won four out of his seven ground duels. He only made 62% of his passes but two of them were considered key passes as he helped his team attack.
The teenager also hit the woodwork early on with a long-range effort that was deflected. He completed 100% of his dribble attempts in an all-action match.
The victory means Paraguay finish fourth in the table and alongside Brazil, Argentina and Colombia qualify for the under-20 World Cup.
His club side Cerro Porteño are next in action against Monagas this Thursday, where he may make a quick return to club action.
