Diego Moreira should get minutes against France on Monday as he looks to seize an opening in a Belgium side undergoing renewal, 13 months on from his first cap and after being used only sparingly by Rudy Garcia.
According to Le Progres, he had hoped to play at the Stade de France last season with Racing Club de Strasbourg, but their Coupe de France run ended before the final. He moved to AC Milan in the summer for €50 million.
Mark van Bommel used him on the right wing in his first two games, a different brief to his left-sided role with the Rossoneri. To start again he must outpace Dodi Lukébakio and Leandro Trossard, now back from a heel injury.
Rotation could help. Kevin De Bruyne and Youri Tielemans are out through yellow-card accumulation, and eight players have started all three Nations League fixtures. Moreira missed the trip to Türkiye through suspension, which finished 3-0.
Willing and diligent defensively, he has not yet convinced with mixed displays against Italy and France, undermined by choices and accuracy in the final third. Touted as a spark like Mika Godts opposite, he has not matched his Alsace or Lombardy returns, scoring 3 goals in 160 minutes in all competitions.
At Milan he largely operates from the left, his preferred side, though at Strasbourg he proved effective in the role used by the national team. A versatile left-footer who can drop deeper or play wing-back, this autumn window looks timely. He still awaits a statement performance, perhaps on Monday.
