After the close of the transfer window in Germany, Werder Bremen can confirm another departure from the club. Midfielder Dikeni Salifou has joined Belgian first-division side KV Mechelen on a permanent deal, as revealed by head of professional football Peter Niemeyer on Sunday.
“After a successful loan spell in Austria last season, Dikeni wasn’t able to get the opportunities he would have liked in his first few weeks back with us. At his age, it’s crucial to play as many minutes as possible. As the competition in our squad is so strong, we couldn’t see that happening here. Therefore, we decided together that a move to Mechelen would be the best option. We wish Dikeni nothing but the best as he continues his development, both personally and professionally,” said Peter Niemeyer.
Dikeni Salifou joined Werder in 2022, moving from the U19s at FC Augsburg. During his time in Bremen, he made one appearance for the first team as well as featuring 13 times for the U23s, scoring three goals along the way. He spent the last two seasons out on loan, first at Juventus’ youth side Next Gen (34 appearances, 2 goals) and then at Austria Klagenfurt (26 appearances, 2 goals).
