According to Meu Timao, Fernando Diniz attended the wake of Fluminense director Paulo Sérgio Scudiere Angioni on Sunday morning, hours before Corinthians face Flamengo in the Brasileiro. Angioni died on Saturday aged 80, and the ceremony was held at the club’s Laranjeiras headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.

An emotional embrace between Diniz and Fluminense striker Germán Cano marked the service, with both men in tears. Visibly shaken, the Corinthians coach delivered a brief speech, saying Angioni died while working and describing him as a father figure.

Diniz worked with Angioni during his Fluminense spell from 2022 to 2024. “Paulo was a unique man. Someone who always put himself in a position to help others. He was a great father to everyone who crossed his path,” Diniz told TNT Sports.

The wake was attended by Fluminense players and leading football figures, including Flamengo president BAP, Rodrigo Caetano, Juan, Lima, Keno, Thiago Santos and Renato Augusto.

Angioni had two spells at Corinthians, heading the football department in 1997 and 1998, then returning in 2004 as general manager of professional football. Following confirmation of his death, the club issued a condolence message and offered support to his family and friends.

His executive career began in the early 1980s after leaving Municipal, in Tijuca, before a 14-year stint at Vasco da Gama. He later worked for Flamengo, Palmeiras, Bahia and Olaria, alongside roles at Corinthians, Vasco and Fluminense, and served as Brazil’s team supervisor at the CBF between 1989 and 1990.
