Fernando Diniz’s unbeaten start at Corinthians ended almost a month after he took charge, a 2-1 defeat to Mirassol in the Brasileirão’s 14th round on Sunday night.

Corinthians had not lost since five April, a 1-0 home reverse to Internacional that led to Dorival Júnior’s sacking and Diniz’s appointment.

The run began with a 2-0 win at Platense in the Libertadores, then a 0-0 draw with Palmeiras in the league. Next came a 2-0 win over Independiente Santa Fe at home, a 0-0 at Vitória, a 1-0 Copa do Brasil success against Barra-SC, a 1-0 over Vasco da Gama and a 2-0 against Peñarol, the last two at Neo Química Arena.

The Mirassol result also dropped Corinthians back into the relegation zone, 17th with 15 points.

Before seeking a response in the league, attention turns to the Libertadores, away to Independiente Santa Fe on Wednesday in the fourth round of the group stage.
