Despite Jonathan Burkardt’s second brace for the club, Eintracht Frankfurt dropped two points in Freiburg after a late free-kick by Vincenzo Grifo. Sporting director Markus Krösche, head coach Dino Toppmöller, and Burkardt spoke to the media after the game.
”It was an exciting and very competitive game, but without big chances at either end,” said Toppmöller. “We made two goals out of a few chances. Freiburg, too. It's a fair draw, even if it feels annoying because of the late goal. Except for the free-kick, we felt we didn’t allow anything in the second half.”
The highly-rated sporting director also showed his frustration over Grifo’s sucker punch. “Basically, I am disappointed because we conceded two simple goals,” said Krösche. “We didn't allow anything in the second half, but actually had to go for the third goal. Conceding such a goal is annoying, of course.”
“That's 100 % two points lost,” said Burkardt after extending his scoring run to seven goals in six matches. “More or less, two individual mistakes caused two goals (for Freiburg). That's annoying. Otherwise, we controlled the game, stood more compact, and we didn't allow great chances defensively.”
“I'm happy with my goals. But, of course, it's a pity we didn't win the game.”
