The agent of Manchester United star Diogo Dalot has branded the defender “one of the best players in the world” as his rise at Old Trafford continues.

Since Ruben Amorim’s arrival, Dalot has become an important player, and before his potentially season-ending injury, he was beginning to show encouraging signs of settling into the wing-back role.

Erik ten Hag also relied heavily on Dalot before the Dutch coach’s dismissal.

This season, Dalot has made 51 appearances across all competitions, notching three goals and five assists in that period.

The 26-year-old is represented by Proeleven, the agency owned by Gonçalves, and on Wednesday, Portuguese outlet A Bola [via SportWitness] featured remarks from his agent highlighting Dalot’s development at United.

Gonçalves praised Dalot’s professionalism and strong work ethic, attributing these qualities to his rise as one of the best players in the world in his position.

“Diogo is an exceptional player, an exceptional person. What he has done doesn’t surprise me, he has always been very focused, very professional, very hard-working.”

“He knows exactly what he wants and how to achieve it. Let’s not forget that he left Porto injured, when José Mourinho took him to Manchester United. There is a recovery phase there, he doesn’t start playing straight away.”

“Then, when he starts playing, the coach changes, and a coach comes in with a different idea, who signs an English right-back, who is no longer at the club, who had cost a lot of money [Aaron Wan-Bissaka].”

During Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time in the dugout, Dalot went out on loan to AC Milan, where he refined his craft. Following Solskjaer’s departure, Dalot began to see more game time, and he hasn’t looked back since.

Gonçalves added, “Diogo was always working. At the time, AC Milan showed interest in having him, I think it was an important year.”

“He came back later, and everyone can see what Diogo has been doing.”

“United are one of the biggest clubs in the world, regardless of the current situation, and there is no doubt that Diogo is also one of the best players in the world.”

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Dalot is working hard to be fit for the Europa League final, in case United get past Athletic Club and book their spot. The Red Devils are back in action on Thursday when they host Athletic for the return leg. Amorim’s men will be heading into the game with a healthy 3-0 aggregate lead gained from the first contest at San Mames.
