The Portugal international has been sidelined since mid-October after suffering a rib injury during the Reds’ 2-1 win over Chelsea.

As a result, he’s missed the last 10 games in a row across all competitions - watching on from the sidelines as Liverpool recorded statement wins against the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen.

Though, Jota is expected to be available for selection imminently, he is likely to sit out the Everton game after an update from Reds head coach Arne Slot, who will also be without the suspended Alexis Mac Allister for the short trip to Goodison Park.

“[The midfield line] is not our main worry at the moment, our main worry is if you look at how close they are all back of [having] playing time, there’s only three injuries left and that’s in our last line,” the Dutchman said in the pre-match press conference.

“With Diogo being close to being back, Federico being close to being back, and the same for Alisson.

“That means only Ibou [Konate], Conor [Bradley] and Kostas [Tsimikas] are a bit further away from playing time.”

Interestingly, Liverpool have uploaded footage from of the squad’s preparations for the Everton clash at their AXA Training Centre base to their official website and social media , and it may have revealed just how close Jota is to being back.

The 28-year-old was heavily involved in the session, even joining the likes of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Darwin Nunez as the session moved outside.

So whilst Jota is unlikely to be included in Liverpool’s matchday squad against Everton, the training footage coupled with Slot’s update suggest it won’t be too long before he returns with next week’s Champions League clash in Girona a possible target.
