Nottingham Forest face Leeds United at the City Ground tonight in the Carabao Cup, seeking a response to Saturday’s 1-0 league defeat. The key question is how much Oliver Glasner rotates.
Nottingham Post notes that the Austrian could still pick a strong XI, with silverware part of his remit. The competition offers owner Evangelos Marinakis a clear route to a trophy.
The weekend meeting was tight, decided by an 88th-minute free-kick after few chances. Glasner had warned set-pieces would be crucial, and the threat remains.
Ousmane Diomande might start in defence. He was unused on Saturday, with Glasner saying he is not yet 100 per cent and Murillo is in the same boat, so the Brazilian played. With Liverpool ahead, resting Murillo would make sense, and Morato could replace Jair Cunha.
Xaver Schlager debuted from the bench, while starters James McAtee and Ibrahim Sangare earned praise as they grew into the game. Even so, a midfield refresh could appeal. Wing-back tweaks are possible, with Luca Netz on the left, Ola Aina staying right, Neco Williams switching or Eric da Silva Moreira involved.
There is depth in the No.10 roles despite Morgan Gibbs-White’s slight injury, with McAtee, Igor Jesus, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Dilane Bakwa, Omari Hutchinson and Arnaud Kalimuendo in contention. Up front, Jesus could start again or Chris Wood could return to build minutes and fitness. Predicted XI: John, Diomande, Milenkovic, Morato, Williams, Schlager, Dominguez, Netz, Kalimuendo, Hudson-Odoi, Wood.
