The President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, paid tribute to the national team following their triumph at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, clinched for only the second time in the history of the Lions of Teranga after their hard-fought victory over Morocco (1-0).

The head of state addressed the nation during the official welcome ceremony for the national team, held late Monday night upon their return to Dakar. He praised a performance marked by technical mastery, commitment, and exemplary sportsmanship.

"You were determined to bring this trophy home, and you did so heroically, playing beautiful football, upholding fair play, and demonstrating exemplary conduct both on and off the pitch. Know that this victory belongs to the entire Senegalese people," declared the Senegalese president.

Proud of his players' achievement, Diomaye Faye also highlighted the discipline and fighting spirit that carried the Lions throughout their continental campaign.

Sadio Mané and his teammates are set to meet the President again this Wednesday, following a massive parade through the streets of Dakar, the grand finale of the celebrations honoring the 2025 African champions.
