Harry Maguire is in talks with Manchester United chiefs to extend his stay beyond 2026.

At the turn of the year, United activated the one-year option in Maguire’s terms, keeping him tied to the club until June 2026 as opposed to 2025.

There has since been speculation as to whether he will see out the final months of his deal before leaving, or, alternatively, be awarded a fresh contract to take his Red Devils tenure beyond seven years.

It now looks as though it’ll be the latter, as Samuel Luckhurst has confirmed that ‘discussions are underway’ between the centre-half and the board to keep him in Ruben Amorim’s ranks for the 2026/2027 campaign.

Whilst Maguire hasn’t been playing a prominent role this term, it’s clear Amorim values having such an experienced head around the current crop of players.

So far this season, he has made seven appearances in all competitions, with only three coming from the off.

However, Amorim’s peculiar preference to rotate his backline late on in games has meant Maguire has been brought off the bench on four occasions, whilst being an unused substitute for the win over Burnley at the end of August.

United declined summer offers for Maguire

Over the summer window, Maguire received approaches from numerous suitors that were keen to prise him from Old Trafford. Sides in the Premier League had contacted United to discuss the prospect of a deal being completed, until the Reds made it clear he was off limits.

“I’m pretty sure the club made it clear this summer that I can’t leave on any terms. A couple of clubs enquired and I think they got a quick response,” said the 32-year-old back in August.

Still, it’s thought that Maguire would be expected to take a pay cut on his current £190,000-a-week wages if he is to put pen to paper on an extension before the New Year.
