Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé made crystal clear his disappointment with his teammates, in the aftermath of their defeat on Wednesday.
This of course comes fresh off an evening to forget for Los Blancos on the continent.
Álvaro Arbeloa’s troops made the trip to Lisbon last night, to close out the club’s league campaign in the Champions League in a meeting with Benfica.
When all was said and done, however, despite taking an early lead, Real Madrid were condemned to the wrong side of a 4-2 result.
Criticism has since come raining down on the Spanish giants in the game’s aftermath, amid claims of the club’s star performers looking disinterested and lacking in motivation.
And sharing such a viewpoint, as alluded to above, is one of the leading members of Álvaro Arbeloa’s squad.
Speaking to the media in the aftermath of a match in which he found the net twice, Kylian Mbappé did not hold back in sniping:
“Today wasn’t a matter of tactics or quality. It was a matter of having more fighting spirit than the opponent. I saw Benfica play for their lives, and I didn’t see that from us. We can’t keep being this inconsistent. We can’t keep doing this ‘day on, day off’ thing, it’s not what champions do! The last goal we conceded was a disgrace from us.”
