Djordje Mihailovic has been added to the US men’s national team roster for the upcoming Nations League matches against Grenada and El Salvador.
He replaces Tim Weah, who is forced to withdraw from the squad after suffering a head injury during Lille’s 2-0 victory over Toulouse. The player entered a concussion protocol following the collision, keeping him on the sidelines for at least two weeks.
Mihailovic is set to join the team in Orlando on Monday, flying from the Netherlands after featuring in AZ Alkmaar’s 1-2 loss vs. Twente in the Dutch Eredivisie.
He is no stranger to international action, having played six times for the USMNT. He debuted during the USA’s 3-0 shutout of Panama on January 27, 2019, and most recently featured in the 6-0 victory over El Salvador on December 9, 2020.
Mihailovic joins as the reigning champions of the Concacaf tournament return to action on March 24 when facing Grenada at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium in Saint George’s, before hosting El Salvador in Orlando, Florida at Exploria Stadium three days later.
The United States currently stand in second place of Group D with four points in two games and a record of 1W-1D-0L. The team will need to win both matches and overcome leaders El Salvador to advance to the next round.
