According to L'Équipe, Oukhta captain Dmitry Khusainov was hit in the face by sparks from a celebratory device during a Russian League Cup match against Syktyvkar.

Acting as the last defender, he failed to prevent a goal and ran off court while trying to stop the move.

The strike triggered two cold spark machines behind the goal, one beside Khusainov. He was caught by the sparks before stepping clear. Cold spark machine is the official name for the device.

The organisers later apologised for the late triggering of the machine when Oukhta conceded, which could have harmed Khusainov. The Superleague’s executive director Ivan Chabanov offered personal apologies to Oukhta, which the club accepted.

Khusainov resumed the match and remains in good health. Oukhta won 6-5.
