On 11th December, Lyon were called for their latest meeting with French football’s financial watchdog, the Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion (DNCG). After their recent meetings with the authority, those associated with Les Gones will have been holding bated breath, hoping for a positive outcome.
Luckily for them and the Rhône club, the DNCG has made the decision to ease the financial restrictions that were previously imposed on Les Gones. Lyon were placed under strict financial supervision and payroll monitoring after their poor management almost saw them relegated to the second division of French football. Under the stewardship of John Textor, their finances derailed to the extent that the watchdog decided to administratively relegate the 7-time Ligue 1 champions.
However, with Michelle Kang taking the reins at the Groupama Stadum, she was able to overturn the decision on appeal and has steered the club to the point where some financial restrictions have been lifted at their latest meeting. Recruitment restrictions are no longer placed on the Ligue 1 club. Nevertheless, the French outfit remains under payroll supervision.
