Joshua Kimmich and Manuel Neuer were unable to take part in the first team training session of the year on Saturday. Both are still struggling with injuries. Now there is news on their fitness levels

FC Bayern’s stars were back on the training pitch at Säbener Straße for the first time in 2026 on Saturday afternoon. While almost the entire squad was present, the absence of two absolute leaders was particularly noticeable. Manuel Neuer and Joshua Kimmich were not on the pitch with their team-mates

The reason for Kimmich’s absence is still the same ankle problem that slowed him down at the end of the year. The DFB captain had already missed the away game in Heidenheim as a result. Instead of team training, Kimmich completed an individual recovery programme so as not to take any risks. According to information from Sky , however, he is expected to return on time for the home game against VfL Wolfsburg on 11 January

Neuer also injured

Manuel Neuer was also not in team training on Saturday, but at least he was on the pitch. Like Kimmich, he was also ruled out against Heidenheim before Christmas. Neuer had suffered a cruciate ligament rupture, but now appears to be making progress. Under the guidance of goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner, he stood between the posts for a good three quarters of an hour and completed an individual session. According to Sky , he should also be ready to return for the Wolfsburg game

During his fan club visit on Sunday, the Bayern keeper said he was „confident that I will be in goal against Wolfsburg at the weekend.“

In addition to the established Bayern stars Kimmich and Neuer, the only new winter signing so far also missed the first team training session of the year. Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, who is on loan at FCB from a partner academy in Gambia until the end of the season, is also still struggling with a minor injury that is preventing him from starting training immediately

Nicolas Jackson is not in Munich at the moment, as he is in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup with Senegal, where he will face Mali on January 9.
