Looking back on Hull City's transfer window in the summer of 2022, it's fair to say that there was definitely mixed fortunes on how each of the 16 signings in chairman Acun Ilicali's first full transfer window impacted the Tigers.
Only one of the loanees brought to the club under Liam Rosenior's predecessor, Shota Arveladze, remain contracted to the club, as well as the likes of last season's top goalscorer Oscar Estupinan also elsewhere this season, as the 39-year-old has moulded a squad into one he can very much call his own.
One of those previous signings which Rosenior has been desperate to get a consistent tune out of was Turkish winger Dogukan Sinik, who joined from Antalyaspor just over a year ago.
Sinik missed the first eleven games of last season, but began to gain experience of featuring in the Championship in the period between Arveladze's dismissal and Rosenior's arrival, before going on to make four appearances from the bench under his management.
However in January, the winger was sent back to Antalyaspor in January after failing to hit it off in East Yorkshire, but Ilicali claimed he would effectively be a new signing in a pre-season interview with Hull Live after making next to no impact in 2022/23.
"For the new season, he will be like a new transfer. When he's had a full pre-season he will have the strength and physical condition to use his skills in the Championship." Ilicali predicted.
Whilst at the time this prediction was met with optimism that Sinik could finally adjust to the rigours of a 46-game season in the Championship, despite Hull's relatively strong start to the campaign, on a personal level for the 24-year-old it has been nothing short of disastrous yet again.
The Tigers were without a winger who has made an immediate impression on City supporters in Jaden Philogene for the away trip to West Bromwich Albion, which seemingly opened the door for Sinik at long last to prove himself.
However, he wouldn't even make the matchday squad, with supporters then questioning what was the point in spending a high undisclosed fee on his services, with it less likely every passing week that he'll pull on a Black and Amber shirt again despite Rosenior's continuous urge to finally utilise him on a regular basis.
“He’s had his scan and he’s going to see the specialist to make sure he doesn’t need an operation but that could leave him out for a long time." He said prior to the 1-0 win over Huddersfield.
"To be honest, it’s one of those. I’ve never heard of it in my life - a player to have ligament damage and feel it without training.
“I feel devastated for him. He’s worked really hard to come back to the right level of fitness. We were trying to build him up to have an effect and it’s a real set-back for him.”
Whilst not stating the exact length of time Sinik will be sidelined for, this injury proves to be yet another damning blow for Sinik's career after only playing 22 minutes of first-team football this season in a 3-0 defeat to Ipswich Town.
As a result of Hull's fluidity in attacking areas, it's hard to make a case that Sinik would start a Championship game given the form showcased by the likes of Philogene and Liam Delap, whilst Scott Twine was also impressive against the Terriers despite coming in for previous criticism.
Many fans will point at Sinik's signing as one of Hull's biggest transfer flops in recent memory, which may be harsh given his injury record, but even when given the chance there hasn't been a standout moment, meaning the best case for both parties would be a fresh challenge on a permanent basis.
