Doku can’t wait to get started under Maresca | OneFootball

Jérémy Doku says he is excited to work with new boss Enzo Maresca having watched out pre-season games in Hong Kong and South Korea.

One noticeable tweak Maresca has already made is adopting a more direct approach from our wingers.

Both Savinho and Antoine Semenyo were in terrific form in Asia, and Doku is looking forward to adding his contribution in the coming weeks and months.

Fresh from penning his 2031 contract extension, Doku said: “I’ve been watching the games the friendly games in Korea and stuff, and the style of play is very attractive.

“But already when [Enzo] was at his previous clubs, I saw this style of play, and it really suits me with the wingers being very aggressive.

“He relies a lot on his wingers to bring danger, and when I watch the games, that’s what they have been doing. So, I’m just going to try and play my part, bring what I can bring - and obviously, do what he wants me to do.”

Doku ended 2025/26 in blistering form, scoring spectacular goals and creating chances for his team-mates.

Overall, he was pleased with his input but wants to kick on again and contribute even more to the team.

“I feel like last season was a good season. When you look at, we competed in almost four competitions,” he said.

“We won two trophies, went far for the Premier League title and Champions League, we went out – okay - but overall, it was a good season.

“So, I just want to try to win everything, be competing in every trophy again go as far as possible. And on a personal note,

“I just want to improve every year, and I want to play my part and just be better than last season again.”

And of course, Doku will never forget the influence and insight Pep Guardiola gave him during his time as City boss...

“I want to congratulate Pep for the years that I had with him, He said.

“They were unbelievable and I learned so much. I remember our first conversation, and being here now signing the new contract is also thanks to him.

“And yeah, I’m very excited to work with Enzo.”
