Domínguez renews 2030 World Cup push for 64 teams after 2026 final | OneFootball

After the 2026 World Cup final, Conmebol president Alejandro Domínguez revived his call for a 64-team tournament in 2030.

In a post on X, he described the next World Cup as being at home and a chance to mark the centenary.

His message reignited speculation about expanding a tournament that featured 48 teams for the first time in the United States, Mexico and Canada. FIFA has not confirmed any further increase.

He accompanied the post with a video showing the Argentina v Spain final, and offered congratulations to Gianni Infantino for the organisation and to Spain as world champions.

The Conmebol chief has floated the idea before, framing it as a one-off enlargement for the centenary edition.

The 2030 World Cup will be staged primarily in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with the opener and other commemorative matches in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.
