Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hot streak for Leeds United has put him back in the England frame ahead of next summer’s World Cup in North America. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, his recent form has revived talk of a recall.

After a slow start at Elland Road, he scored his second Leeds goal in late November during the 3-2 defeat at Manchester City. He has since struck seven in six, and his equaliser in Sunday’s draw at Sunderland made him the first Whites player to score in six consecutive Premier League games.

Calvert-Lewin has four goals in 11 senior caps and has not played for England since coming on in the Euro 2020 quarter-final win over Ukraine in the summer of 2021.

The striker has kept any international chat at arm’s length, reflecting that Euro 2020 feels a long time ago, that he has ridden ups and downs, and that he now feels strong, in rhythm and is enjoying his football.

With Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane firmly established as Thomas Tuchel’s first-choice frontman, former England midfielder Danny Murphy believes alternatives will be assessed and that Calvert-Lewin could be in the conversation if he sustains this level.

Murphy said the Leeds forward looks fit, confident and aerially dominant, a profile that could trouble teams from the bench. He added that Ollie Watkins retains an edge for pace and, after his Euro 2024 semi-final winner against the Netherlands, carries greater tournament impact and familiarity with the current squad.
