Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been named Premier League Player of the Month for December after a prolific run as Leeds United went through the month unbeaten.

yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk reports the award followed a sparkling spell. He scored six times in five league games, including a brace against Crystal Palace at Elland Road, as Leeds recorded two wins and three draws.

He had already scored at the Etihad in late November, then produced his best goalscoring streak for five years, easing doubts over his free transfer to Elland Road.

He edged Manchester City's Rayan Cherki, Phil Foden and Erling Haaland, whose December returns were, respectively, one goal and four assists, four goals and one assist, and five goals with three assists. Also shortlisted were Liverpool's Hugo Ekitike, five goals and one assist, Aston Villa duo Morgan Rodgers, four and one, and Ollie Watkins, five and one, and Fulham's Harry Wilson, two and four.

Leeds' number nine joins Jack Grealish, Haaland, Bryan Mbeumo and Igor Thiago among this season's monthly winners.

Calvert-Lewin said December felt like the start of the best form of his career, comparable only to his Carlo Ancelotti spell at Everton. He added that meeting raised expectations again and again matters to him, and credited hard work, those around him and his team-mates.
