Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been left out of England’s 2026 World Cup squad after Thomas Tuchel confirmed his 26-man selection.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, leaks circulated the previous evening before Friday’s official reveal. Harry Kane, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney of Al-Ahli are the three strikers.
Calvert-Lewin hit his 14th Premier League goal in last weekend’s 1-0 win over Brighton, moving joint-top among English scorers. He is level with Watkins and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, who is also omitted.
Toney has not featured under Tuchel for almost 12 months, last playing in a June friendly against Senegal. He has scored 32 in 32 Saudi Pro League games this season.
Calvert-Lewin’s March recall ended a five-year wait for England duty. He played just over half an hour off the bench against Uruguay, then returned to Thorp Arch as planned before a second game with Japan.
On Leeds United’s official podcast, he said it felt good to be back and that a World Cup remains a childhood dream. He stressed the manager picks the squad and that he can only keep scoring and see what follows.
Former Leeds loanee Djed Spence is included after improved form at Tottenham. He made seven appearances at Elland Road before an early return to North London in January.
Leeds teammates Gabriel Gudmundsson, Ao Tanaka and Noah Okafor have World Cup call-ups with Sweden, Japan and Switzerland respectively. Anton Stach has missed out on Germany.
