Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai reflects on his responsibilities and the demands of his position, emphasising that the team’s achievements take priority over his own goal-scoring record.

The 23-year-old Hungarian has been a consistent player in Liverpool’s midfield this season, playing in all eight Premier League games and featuring in both of the club’s Champions League matches so far. Despite being yet to score in the league, Szoboszlai is focusing on doing the “dirty job” that helps the reds maintain their position at the top of the table.

Szoboszlai said when asked about his current form. The Number eight responded: “It can always be better, so no, I’m not satisfied,” “I can play even better. I can score more goals and provide more assists. But I am doing a dirty job for the team, and that is most important for me. If we’re at the top of the league and I don’t score, that’s what matters most.”

Szoboszlai’s role this season has not changed drastically compared to his responsibilities under former manager Jurgen Klopp, but there are slight tweaks as he adjusts to Slot’s style of play. “Last year I was doing the same, so it’s not new to me,” he noted. “I’m going to keep doing it for my team until we succeed. It doesn’t matter to me if I don’t score, as long as we’re top of the table.”

The 23 year old remains committed to improving his numbers in front of goal. He acknowledges that adapting to Liverpool’s tactical approach under Slot will take time, but he remains optimistic about finding more scoring opportunities as the season progresses. “I’ll keep working to put myself in better positions to score goals. It takes time, but I’ll get there,” he added.

“The match is, of course, special for me because I had two and a half great years in Leipzig,” said Szoboszlai. “I still know a lot of people there, and I’m very grateful for the time we had together, with two cup wins and a lot of emotions. In the end, RB made me the player I am today.”

For Szoboszlai, individual achievements are secondary to Liverpool’s aims for success this season. With the Reds competing on multiple fronts, including the Premier League, two domestic cup competitions, and the Champions League, the midfielder is keeping a grounded perspective on their ambitions. “We’re taking it game by game and seeing what happens,” he explained. “We have the chance to compete in the Premier League, the two cups in England, and the Champions League against the best teams in the world. We want to achieve a lot, but we’ll see what we’re capable of.”
