Don Garber to chair U.S. Soccer’s Soccer Forward after 27 years at MLS | OneFootball

U.S. Soccer announced on Thursday that outgoing MLS commissioner Don Garber will chair the Soccer Forward Foundation, a role focused on expanding access and investment across the country as he prepares to end a 27-year tenure.

Soccer Forward fronts the federation's drive to equip communities, teams and programmes with resources to grow the game, supporting U.S. Soccer's 119 member organisations across all 50 states and community groups nationwide. Recent work includes a Bank of America-backed Soccer at Schools initiative targeting access in every school by 2030, alongside efforts to strengthen the women's game with business and technical support.

Garber will work with federation leaders to broaden investment and build partnerships, with Soccer Forward the primary vehicle through initiatives such as Places to Play, Soccer Forward Fests and the Kang Women's Institute.

The appointment comes as the focus shifts from the 2026 World Cup to sustaining momentum, with the 2028 Olympics and the 2031 Women's World Cup identified as key milestones.

Garber has overseen MLS for 27 years and previously worked in the NFL. Through Soccer United Marketing, he also helped drive the federation's commercial operations until it brought media rights sales in-house in 2022.

Ambassadors for Soccer Forward include Chris Richards, Ally Sentnor, Tony Sanneh and Jozy Altidore.
