The future of Pedro Fernandez ‘Dro’ is becoming increasingly clearer after the youngster made a shock decision to leave Barcelona this January, amid a lack of game time.
PSG have emerged as the frontrunners in the race to sign the young midfield prodigy, who is termed as one of the most gifted players to come out of La Masia in recent memory.
It was reported extensively by the French media last night that Dro’s move to PSG is imminent. Now, that has been confirmed by renowned Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg.
As reported by Plettenberg, Dro’s move to PSG is now a done deal, following total agreement between PSG and the player.
PSG have activated Dro’s €6 million release clause at Barcelona, with the youngster likely to pen a long-term contract at Parc des Princes.
Dro’s medical could be slated soon, with the announcement likely to come shortly afterwards.
Plettenberg adds that Luis Enrique and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi had played a key role in convincing Dro to move to the French capital.
This could serve as a major blow for Barcelona, who had reportedly identified Dro as a long-term midfielder partner for someone like Pedri.
But following the youngster’s shock announcement, the club virtually had their hands tied, with no real scope for re-negotiations.
It is a gamble for both parties, especially for Dro, knowing that not many players who have moved out of La Masia have succeeded in recent times.
He won’t be the first La Masia player to join PSG either, as Xavi Simons, too, had deflected to the Parisian club in the past, only to find himself playing elsewhere in a few years’ time.
In the past, Ilaix Moriba had also left similarly but struggled to make any real impetus at the highest level of football.
