Bayern Munich are close to securing the signing of PSV Eindhoven attacker Ismael Saibari.
We have covered previously that the German champions had been negotiating a deal for the Morocco international, and they have reached an agreement.
Bayern have also reached an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for left-back Nathaniel Brown, who scored for Germany in the World Cup clash against Curacao.
We previously reported that Bayern had already agreed personal terms with the 25-year-old versatile winger, but they were haggling with the transfer fee.
Christian Falk exclusively informed CFBayern Insider that a deal has been agreed between Bayern and Eindhoven for Saibari.
The German record champions will pay a figure just under €55m, including bonuses, for the attacker. The deal is sealed, and only medical examinations and paper work are left to complete his signing.
However, this could take a few more days, until after Morocco’s second World Cup group-stage match against Scotland on Saturday, so as not to disrupt preparations for the game.
Negotiations had focused on the transfer amount, with PSV determined to make Saibari the most expensive sale in the club’s history. The current record is the €50m transfer of Hirving Lozano to Napoli in 2019. Bayern, meanwhile, were looking to keep the cost under control.
A breakthrough was eventually achieved with the help of agent Ali Dursun. The final deal will see PSV receive a new club-record fee, while Bayern believe the package — made up of a guaranteed payment and performance-related bonuses — represents fair value for the player.
Securing the agreement quickly was important for Bayern, as Saibari had already attracted interest from several clubs following an impressive season in which he scored 19 goals and provided nine assists in 37 matches.
Saibari made a strong start to the tournament, scoring a superb chipped goal in Morocco’s 1-1 draw against Brazil in their opening group-stage match, and his value could have sky-rocketed if Bayern delayed.
By finalising the fee now, Bayern sporting executives Max Eberl and Christoph Freund have avoided a potential bidding war and moved one of Vincent Kompany’s top transfer targets closer to completion.
Saibari primarily plays as a central attacking midfielder, but can also play on the left hand side, and as a striker if needed.
Bayern have Jamal Musilia, Serge Gnabry and even Lennart Karl as options in the central midfield role, but Vincent Kompany personally brought the name of Saibari to the table.
The Bayern head coach spoke with the player and wanted to have him in the side. The club have full faith in Kompany, and they want to make the deal happen.
Kompany probably will view him as a secondary striker who can fill in place of Harry Kane, and can also use either of Saibari, Musiala, or Gnabry on the left depending on the formation.
