The two clubs have been negotiating for several weeks, but to no avail. Nevertheless, all parties were desperate to find an agreement.

The Blues need to trim their squad which includes an abundance of players, while the Partenopei want a top-notch striker to replace the departing Victor Osimhen.

For his part, Lukaku has been eager to reunite with Antonio Conte.

The two men enjoyed a successful collaboration during their time together at Inter. It culminated with a Scudetto title in 2021, with the striker winning the Serie A MVP Award for his exploits.

Therefore, the two clubs kept trying, and the negotiations have apparently reached a happy ending.

According to Sky Sport Italia via FcInterNews, Chelsea have now accepted Napoli’s offer for Lukaku.

The West Londoners will receive a transfer fee of 30 million euros. The agreement also includes a 30% sell-on fee in case of a future resale.

Napoli will be the Belgian’s third club in Itay. The 31-year-old played for AS Roma on loan last season.

Nevertheless, Lukaku remains heavily associated with Inter. His original stint at Appiano Gentile between 2019 and 2021 is arguably the most prosperous of his playing career thus far.

The striker eventually opted to return to Stamford Bridge after receiving a lucrative offer. But following a few unhappy months in the English capital, he expressed his desire to return to Inter in a controversial interview in December 2021.

The Belgium international eventually got his wish when Inter brought him back on loan the following summer. However, his second spell at San Siro ended on a sour note.

Last summer, and while the club was working on maintaining his services on a permanent deal, Lukaku and his lawyer were secretly negotiating a transfer to Juventus, and eventually refused to reply to the calls of the Inter directors.
