Bayern fought their way to a 3-1 victory over FC St. Pauli on Saturday afternoon, with Vincent Kompany rating his team’s performance after the game
After their first defeat of the season (3-1 at FC Arsenal), Munich put in a mixed performance against FC St. Pauli. Luis Diaz and Nicolas Jackson rescued FC Bayern late on and secured Vincent Kompany’s team three important points in the championship race. At the post-match press conference, Kompany spoke about his team’s performance
Kompany emphasised: „Hard-fought victories like this are part and parcel of a season. It gives us confidence for the future that we can win in situations like this. Credit to the lads for keeping going and believing in themselves. We need that as the season progresses.“

The 39-year-old was then asked if the effects of the small squad are starting to be felt. Kompany explained: „I think it’s just part of soccer. Last week we won 6-2, before that we won against PSG. I understand the question because we lost against Arsenal and it wasn’t easy today.“
The Belgian continued: „But as I said, that’s part of soccer. In the end, we extended our lead over Leipzig by another two points, which is important. I don’t find that surprising. We also have to appreciate victories like today’s.“
Bayern president Herbert Hainer also spoke about FCB’s performance after the game: „We had to fight for a long time, but on the other hand it shows the morale of the team that they believe in themselves and turn the game around at the end. In previous seasons, they would have „stopped playing and not won games like this“.
