Manchester United forward Amad has insisted he held up his middle finger to a crowd outside the team’s hotel in Malaysia after insults were made about his mother.
United suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to ASEAN All-Stars at Bukit Jalil Stadium on Wednesday, in the first game of their post-season tour.
Amad came off the bench at the break and played the entire second half. He looked bright and made some positive contributions.
As the players were leaving their hotel and making their way to the team bus, Amad was spotted showing some fans the middle finger.
Earlier on Thursday, the Ivorian revealed that he took exception to fans insulting his mother.
He added that he does not regret his actions.
Amad wrote on X, “I have respect for people but not for the one who insults my mom…”
“I shouldn’t have reacted like that but I don’t regret what I did.”
“We had a great time in Malaysia with good people.”
Unsurprisingly, fans have shown strong support for Amad, appearing to fully understand the reasons behind his actions in Kuala Lumpur.
The 22-year-old is one of the very few United players who can hold their head up after an extremely disappointing 2024/25 campaign that saw the Red Devils finish in 15th place in the Premier League.
United suffered 18 defeats, nine of which came at home, and collected just 42 points. They also blew their chance to win a trophy, losing out to Tottenham Hotspur in last week’s Europa League final.
Ruben Amorim and his players have another fixture against Hong Kong on Friday. They will then enjoy a break until July, when pre-season kicks off.
