According to Football Italia, Inter’s Coppa Italia Final win over Lazio has made Roma mathematically certain of a Europa League place. That result triggers the clause for Donyell Malen’s 25m move from Aston Villa to become permanent.
Malen joined on loan in January with an option to buy. The option becomes an obligation if Roma qualify for either the Champions League or the Europa League.
Had Lazio lifted the cup, they would have taken a Europa League berth, leaving only fifth in Serie A in that competition and sixth dropping to the Conference League. Inter’s victory instead means fifth and sixth will enter the Europa League in 2026-27, with seventh going to the Conference League.
Roma are fifth in the table. They are level on 67 points with fourth-placed Milan.
Malen has impressed since arriving, scoring 13 goals and supplying two assists in 16 Serie A matches.
