This summer marked one of the busiest transfer windows in Liverpool’s history, and a number of deals are still being debated today.

The Reds splashed out a record amount on a number of new signings to further strengthen Arne Slot’s title-winning side, but the current campaign isn’t going to plan.

As well as bringing in fresh faces, a number of players departed Anfield, with one of the most notable sales being Jarell Quansah, who joined Bayer Leverkusen for £35m.

The deal looked like a good fee for a player who had struggled for minutes under Slot, but Liverpool’s defensive struggles have since left some fans wishing the England international was still in Merseyside.

Quansah doesn’t regret leaving Liverpool

Although it looks as though Quansah might have been afforded more of an opportunity this season, with Ibrahima Konate desperately struggling to find form, the 22-year-old believes he made the right decision leaving the Reds.

"I had the opportunity to prove myself here [at Leverkusen] and I'm super happy that I made the move," Quansah told BBC Sport.

"You can't live the game of football with regrets. Anything could have happened at Liverpool and I had to focus on what I wanted to do and what I felt was best.”

Quansah has continued his development in Germany and has been a regular fixture in Bayer Leverkusen’s starting XI for most of the season.

The young defender also seems to have cemented his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad only six months out from the World Cup.

Could Quansah return to Liverpool?

The silver-lining of the Quansah deal was the buy-back clause that Richard Hughes reportedly inserted into the deal.

That clause could see the defender return to Liverpool from 2027 for £70m.

Although Quansah didn’t explicitly state he wants to return to Anfield one day when talking to BBC Sport, he left the door open for a move.

"The feeling I got from Leverkusen was everything I needed for my development,” Quansah said. “It's not about this year or next year - it's about where I'm going to be when I reach the top of my level.

The Liverpool academy graduate will be well aware of the Reds’ option to bring him back to Anfield and, if he continues to develop at the rate we have seen over the past few seasons, supporters will be delighted to see Quansah back in Merseyside.
