Dorival: Corinthians improving, injury woes, focus on Brasileirão

Corinthians visited Fluminense for the 23rd round of the Brasileirão and left Maracanã with three points in the bag. For Dorival Júnior, the team is in a process of evolution, but it is still necessary to stay alert to their position in the standings.

“I think the work is progressing. We have to be concerned with the moment, with the situation. It’s still a worrying situation, we wouldn’t like to be where we are. We could already have a few more points for what we produced in many games, but it didn’t happen. Suddenly, we are starting to find a path with a bit more confidence and waiting for the return of all the players so that we have our full squad.” Dorival Júnior began.

Corinthians played shorthanded, with several starters unable to play due to physical problems, such as Memphis Depay, Garro, and Raniele, in addition to Carrillo who is still recovering from ankle surgery. On the other side, the team from Rio was able to rotate their squad within the same match.

“Fluminense had the option to change practically the entire team. And it’s natural that they would have a physical advantage throughout this process. However, I think we also had and were smart in the way we played, we didn’t suffer that much, even feeling a physical difference compared to the opposing team. Even so, we were well positioned on the field—if my memory serves me right, out of 26 matches we’ve been here, in 13 of them, 50%, we didn’t concede a goal.” emphasized the Corinthians coach.

With only the Brasileirão left to play until December, since the final stages of the Copa do Brasil have been postponed to the end of the year, Corinthians will try to improve their position in the league. According to Dorival, the group is looking to climb even higher in the standings.

“We have an obligation in the Brazilian Championship to recover. We are in a delicate position in the table and we have to seek the greatest possibility, the best possible condition of points needed for our recovery.” he concluded.
