Corinthians’ 1-0 Paulistão loss to Novorizontino on Saturday leaves Dorival Júnior eyeing a rare training window to reset and recover. He said he is pleased with the group and views the break as important for the club’s aims this season.

According to Meu Timao, the club squeezed 15 matches into 48 days, with at most four days between fixtures. In that stretch they recorded seven wins, four draws and four defeats, and lifted the Supercopa do Brasil.

The pause could aid a push to improve on last year’s 13th in the Brasileirão while balancing the Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil. Dorival stressed the need for extra training and recovery, adding they are seeking market opportunities rather than forcing moves.

He called the league campaign worthy and thought the team were around fourth or fifth, saying they would be nearer the lead without the opener. They have started well, currently third on seven points, and reached the state semi-finals.

This lay-off will exceed their pre-season, which lasted eight days from 3 January to their 11 January debut. Now there are 10 days to train before facing Coritiba.

Dorival said the early weeks were heavy after only 10 days’ rest, praised the players’ commitment and felt they might have deserved more against Novorizontino, while recognising the opponents.

Corinthians host Coritiba at the Neo Química Arena on Wednesday, 11 March, at 21:30, in the fifth round of the Brasileirão.
