Borussia Dortmund got off to a great start in their first leg knock-out game at home to Atalanta and will be taking a healthy lead to Italy.

The Bundesliga side took the lead inside the first three minutes after an excellent cross from Julian Ryerson on the right was headed in from close range.

Three minutes before the end of the first half, BVB struck again. This time it was Guirassy charging down the left channel as Dortmund attacked quickly before squaring the ball for Maximilian Beier to finish from close range.

Raffaele Palladino's side offered little in the way of attacking threat in the second half as the Italian side struggled to find a way past the Dortmund defence.

Atalanta had plenty of the ball towards the end but looked like they ran out of ideas. Indeed, it will have to be quite the performance if Atalanta are to turn this one around in Bergamo next time out with the xG summing up the match, Dortmund's 1.74xG to Atalanta's 0.48xG.
