Sport BILD is aware that Nico Schlotterbeck's release clause in his contract with Borussia Dortmund expired yesterday, Wednesday.
After a considerable standoff regarding a new deal, the German international eventually put pen to paper on a contract until 2031.
Within that extension included a buy-out clause only available for the 26-year-old's dream clubs like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Liverpool.
Consequently, if the tabloid's sources are correct, Dortmund now holds full control of the the central defender's future once again.
While a departure cannot be completely ruled out, BVB can now set the price for the defender who Transfermarkt.com value at €55million.
For the time being, however, this seems unlikely given Schlotterbeck picked up a ligament injury during Germany's 2026 World Cup campaign.
Last night also saw the release clause of BVB teammate Serhou Guirassy terminate amid continued interest from Fenerbahçe.
