Dortmund’s organised fan groups will boycott Wednesday’s Champions League play-off second leg at Atalanta after rigorous police and security checks en route to Bergamo, according to BuLi News.
Südtribüne Dortmund said up to 300 supporters were stopped at German airports for what it considered flimsy reasons. It added that many endured extensive checks or further travel bans with reporting requirements at the gate and even on planes.
Supporters already in northern Italy were also visited by Italian police at their accommodation. Borussia Dortmund said it had not been informed of such measures beforehand.
The club said it had no detailed background on actions it considered incomprehensible. It was more than surprised by the reach and scale of the protests, saying the situation was new in its form and intensity.
It expressed regret that what it regarded as dubious conduct by the authorities was discouraging some of its supporters from attending.
