Borussia Dortmund are in talks to extend Nico Schlotterbeck's contract beyond 2027, according to Sky Germany.
The report claims that BVB are keen to extend the 25-year-old's deal until 2028 or 2029 and see him as a future club captain.
Currently earning a reported €2.5 million, an extension would see Schlotterbeck become one of the club's top earners.
By comparison, Niklas Süle is currently believed to be one of the club's highest-paid players, earning €10 million a year.
In the absence of captain Emre Can and vice-captain Julian Brandt, Schlotterbeck wore the captain's armband for the first time in Dortmund's 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich at the weekend.
"It was an incredible feeling. I think it's an honor for my performances in the last two-and-a-half years at BVB and I have to thank the coach for putting so much trust in me," he said after the game.
According to both Bild and Sky, Schlotterbeck could potentially replace Can as captain next season.
