According to BILD and FußballTransfers.com, Borussia Dortmund are hoping to extend the contract of Luca Reggiani

Amid an injury crisis in defence, the young defender has stepped up and fit seamlessly into Niko Kovač's three-man backline.

Impressive performances in his last three games against Mainz [4-0], Atalanta [2-0] and RB Leipzig [2-2] may have earned him a reward.

BILD suggests the captain of Dortmund's U-19 and Italian U-17 teams has already been offered a new contract until at least 2030.

The 18-year-old, whose current deal runs until 2027, is expected to become an example of a youth talent making it in the first team.

As the Westphalians look to go back to their roots of uncovering hidden gems, other youth players are seen as having a big future at BVB.

Among those are Samuele Inácio, 17, and Mathis Albert, 16, who have appeared on Niko Kovač's substitutes bench in recent weeks.

BVB's managing director of sport Lars Ricken now wants to solidify Reggiani's place in the first team by furthering his stay with a new deal.

However, there is less pressure to act on Inácio and Albert, as their youth contracts include extensions that keep them beyond 2027.
