Borussia Dortmund continued their preseason tour, running riot over USL side San Diego Loyal in a friendly. Here is what went down in California.
Scorers: Duranville 2′, Moukoko 27′, Reus 60′, Meunier 62′, Haller (P) 68′, Besong 89′
While there was a major gulf in talent between the two sides, Dortmund’s early lead through a Julien Duranville strike from close-range flattered the Bundesliga outfit.
San Diego showed no fear in hitting Dortmund on the counterattack, and probably should have had a few goals of their own in the opening 15 minutes.
They were punished for their wastefulness however, as Youssoufa Moukoko capitalized on a calamitous back-pass to slide home and double Dortmund’s lead before the half-hour mark.
Dortmund captain Marco Reus made his mark on the match, scoring on the hour mark to put the Schwarzgelben three ahead and opening the floodgates.
Only a minute later, Thomas Meunier made the most of his cameo off the bench by continuing to pile on Dortmund’s USL opponents, scoring from inside the penalty area, which was quickly followed up by a Sébastien Haller strike from the spot.
Youngster Paul-Philipp Besong scored late on to cap off the blowout victory for the Bundesliga giants.
Next up for Edin Terzić’s men is a trip to Las Vegas, where they will square off with Manchester United.
